Hoi Harmen
Ik weet dat Huang verre van safe is, maar ik ben zijn beschrijving eerder tegengekomen. Het komt ongeveer neer op het volgende:
King Wen placed most of the hexagrams in a sequence of inverse or mirroring pairs; in other words, if one of a pair is turned upside-down it becomes the other. There are eight hexagrams that remain the same when they are inverted. These are paired as opposites; what is a yang line in one is a yin line in another. The meanings of hexagrams in these pairs are related and they are arranged to describe the cycle of existence, as King Wen understood it. The first eight hexagrams show the beginning of this sequence
1 Initiating – conception, idea, inspiration
2 Completion – fulfillment, creation, materialization
3 Interaction – birth, appearance, giving life
4 What is born – initial innocence, coming into being
5 Accumulation – waiting for nourishment
6 Contention - disagreement over resources
7 The masses - contention leads to accepting ranks
8 Union - bonds of unity, a country or family.
This sequence is the beginning of what is called the Upper Canon and it is followed through to hexagram 30. The second sequence of 34 hexagrams (31-64) is called the Lower Canon. The Upper Canon is said to be existence as yang and describes the Tao of Heaven. The Lower Canon concerns existence as yin and describes the Tao of Humanity.
